Effective January 1, 2002,
 the General Laws of RI state that:

  • Any person born on or after Jan 1, 1986 cannot operate a vessel powered by machinery over 10hp unless that person has passed an approved boating course; and,

  • Any person operating a personal watercraft in state waters must have successfully completed an approved boating course
